The Supermodel of Porn! jessica drake
by Pauli K
Paulie K: Welcome, Jessica Drake!! I know you just came back from Vegas, where the annual AVN Awards were held at The Palms Resort and Casino, so I’ll try and talk softly.
jessica drake: Oh don’t worry, Paulie, I’m fine. This wasn’t my first show, you know.
Paulie K: True, you are a very strong member of Adult who continues to be as popular, if not more popular now then you were years ago.
jessica drake: I know, I am truly blessed.
Paulie K: I’ll say! God you look amazingly sexy. Your body is tighter then ever.
jessica drake: Thank you, Paulie, you’re very sweet.
Paulie K: So now, I have to start this off in an very unorthodox way for me. Usually I begin an interview with the beginning of the subject’s career— but you are different.
jessica drake: Really? How so? Should I be flattered?
Paulie K: Well yes, because you do mainstream work as well as Adult—and I know most of your fans saw you on HBO’s, “Pornucopia: Going Down in the Valley”, which was and is a huge ratings hit for them.
jessica drake: Yes, that documentary was huge. That aired in 2004, and people still come up to me and tell me they loved me in it.
Paulie K: How did that happen, because it is a huge show for them, and you play a very big role in it.
jessica drake: I was with Wicked, and HBO came to me, directly, and asked about it. Of course I said yes and was thrilled to have them around. They were great to work with.
Paulie K: You also do many Cinemax movies, legitimate TV Pilots, The Tyra Banks Show and a comedy feature film, “Barry Munday”.
jessica drake: Yea, I get around.
Paulie K: Really, you were Sasha Grey, before she was Sasha Grey! I mean you were doing mainstream non-nude work before she was probably even born.
jessica drake: Well I wouldn’t go that far, but I am blessed enough to work both sides of
the room.
Paulie K: I gotta ask you, because I am so in love with her, how is Tyra Banks?
jessica drake: Honestly, Tyra Banks is very intimidating. She is tall, curvy
and gorgeous.
Paulie K: I would imagine she would be like one of those creatures in AVATAR.
jessica drake: She does warm up to you though, then it gets easier, when she relaxes and you relax. Her skin is amazing, and she is exceptionally beautiful.
Paulie K: She is right? I could stare at her eyes and tits forever! Since we are talking mainstream, what do you think of Sasha Grey? Fresh from her role of Oscar Winning Director Steven Soderbergh’s film “GFE”. Have you seen it?
jessica drake: I did in fact see GFE and I loved it. She was great in the film. I didn’t like the fact that a pornstar was once again typecast, I would have loved for her to play a different sort of character altogether, to show her range and talent.
Paulie K: What, she plays a hooker, right?
jessica drake: Yea, I mean Sasha completely held her own in the film and was fabulous. I loved it.
Paulie K: What do you find is the biggest difference between the twofilm industries?
jessica drake: The most obvious one is how taboo mainstream feels about nudity. I mean, when I do film for Cinemax or whomever, they give me an assistant who holds a robe. When the film in the camera stops rolling, they throw that robe over me immediately. I mean immediately. Then the camera starts to roll, they yell action, and the assistant takes back the robe.
Paulie K: Interesting.
jessica drake: Yea, that’s how it is on their sets. I mean you know me, in my movie, when the camera stops rolling, I stay naked and go get a bagel or something, I don’t care. I like being naked, everyone else is naked, we’re all eating lunch naked —it’s no big deal for us, you know?
Paulie K: Yea, I bet Martin Scorcese would get even thicker glasses if his girls stayed naked in his pictures all day.
jessica drake: Ha ha! He doesn’t do those kind of pictures does he?
Paulie K: No, I’m just kidding. Another thing that your fans know from that HBO show is that you were married to perhaps the hardest working man in porn today, Evan Stone.
jessica drake: Yes, I was married to Evan, but I’d rather keep my private
life private.
Paulie K: Fair enough, let me just explain to that one reader who
hasn’t seen that HBO Special. It featured You, during the filming of some Wicked film, Evan and another girl, whom you all claimed were one couple. So it was a three-way marriage.
jessica drake: Correct.
Paulie K: So Evan would say something like he’d wake up, have sex with one girl, then go to work, have sex with his co-star, then come home and have sex with you.
jessica drake: Yes. That is all true.
Paulie K: I dunno if I feel jealous or bad for the poor guy. All that fucking — how do you find time for anything else in your life?
jessica drake: Well, it didn’t work out, and we divorced in 2004. I love Evan, he’s a great guy, and I wish him all the best.
Paulie K: Ok, back to you. Let’s go to the beginning and find out where your Hall of Fame
career started.
jessica drake: Ah, it began way back in San Antonio, TX. I had a normal life, going to college and majoring in psychology.
Paulie K: Psych? Really? No wonder you write, direct and star in your own films!!
jessica drake: I loved every aspect of it, except when it came to Statistics, that field became very hard for me.
Paulie K: Now how were you paying for college at this time?
jessica drake: I was stripping.
Paulie K: Wait a minute! That is an old Stripper’s Myth!! No one really pays for college while stripping— they all just say that!
jessica drake: Ha ha, I know, I know. In my case though, it was true. I was stripping and it was great for paying for college.
Paulie K: How on earth did you start stripping?
jessica drake: I simply answered an ad for a club who was looking for dancers. Actually, I told myself I’ll just end up getting a waitress job or something like that, but at least go down there and meet the guy and say hello
and everything.
Paulie K: OK, so you weren’t going there with a suitcase full of high heels
and thongs.
jessica drake: No, not at all. I thought I’d go, since they were looking for help, and be hired for another position or something.
Paulie K: But God has a sense of humor though, doesn’t he?
jessica drake: Yes he does. The owner called me down on a Friday night, packed house. I mean this club was packed with standing room and everything. I went to talk to him and he just told me that I was on stage next, and that was the end of our dialogue!
Paulie K: So drunk guys are screaming and cheering, and you had to dance onstage nude for the first time?
jessica drake: I had told the owner that I had experience dancing, so he had no idea what he was doing. I just took a deep breath and took off my top—
and danced.
Paulie K: You have never danced on a stripper stage before, never been topless before, how did you do it?
jessica drake: Well I am very comfortable with my body, and I didn’t mind being topless, at all. I was also a Cheerleader, so I did some splits onstage, and shook my tits a little bit and that kept the boys happy.
Paulie K: I bet it did. Wow. You are a brave little girl!!
jessica drake: So from there, I wanted to feature dance, and I talked to some agencies and they introduced me to Michael Raven in El Paso, TX. He was shooting a movie there at the time. He saw me, I saw him, and he put me in his movie. I only shot solo and G/G stuff for him in the beginning.
Paulie K: I was gonna ask you, did you start out with an orgy?! I heard you Texas girls like it big, but wow, you take the cake!!
jessica drake: Yes we do!! So I hung around Mr. Raven for a while and learned the business and got to meet everybody in Adult and got comfortable with everyone before I really began doing porn.
Paulie K: That sounds smart. When did Wicked sink their claws into you?
jessica drake: Wicked came around, I think, about 2004 or so, they signed
me up.
Paulie K: Why did you want to be a contract girl? You were doing fine in porn for about 3 or 4 years, then you go to a big studio.
jessica drake: This may sound corny, but I love acting. I wanted to go somewhere where I can do some acting, some good roles as well as good sex, and doing gonzo films just weren’t allowing me to do that.
Paulie K: Honestly, you cram so much sex into your films, they have just as much sex, if not more, then a lot of your older gonzo titles.
jessica drake: Well that’s the great thing about Wicked— they allow me to do that. I won AVN Best Actress awards in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Acting is something I take pride in, and I guess mainstream has been paying attention.
Paulie K: There was this movie you did, “Fallen”, which you won Best Actress for in 2009— huge, huge movie. I don’t know if your fans will remember, but the boxcover was you, in a set of these huge, beautiful angel wings, looking down.
jessica drake: Oh I love that movie, and it’s been such a huge, huge hit for us. Brad Armstrong came up with the idea for that movie from a billboard for Nip/Tuck.
Paulie K: Really?
jessica drake: Yes! The billboard was from an angel’s body who had her wings clipped and was lying on the floor. From that one picture, Brad Armstrong created Fallen. He is such a genius and I’m so lucky to have him in my life.
Paulie K: Now the wings look amazing— I mean, they’re not porn wings, these wings could be in any feature film today. They could be AVATAR wings!!
jessica drake: That boxcover won Box Cover of the Month Award and AVN Best Packaging of the Year! We took an entire day to shoot that one pose, that one picture with me and those angel wings. I even met a guy in Norway who got that picture tattooed on his body!!!
Paulie K: When someone tattoos your movie on their skin— I would say that’s a good fucking movie.
jessica drake: Oh that movie has 10 sex scenes, I think, or around there. My first DP was that movie, during the orgy, anal, cumswap, I did everything in that film. I was in about 8 sex scenes, then there was Jenna Haze, Brad Armstrong, Shyla Stylez— that thing won a ton of awards and we are all very proud of it.
Paulie K: I would love to ask you more about that film but we just don’t have the time. Kids, go see Fallen, you won’t regret it. So what is on the horizon for the great Hall of Famer, Jessica Drake?
jessica drake: Well, Paulie, I have a few movies rolling out— “The Alibi” is out now, and “Wicked Games” should be out when this issue goes to press.
Paulie K: Nice.
jessica drake: I wrote, directed and starred in “3 Days In June” and that sexy flick should be released in early summer. After that, “Chasing Tail” should roll out.
Paulie K: Wow, you are a fuck movie machine!!
jessica drake: I love what I do, what can I say?
Paulie K: You love it, and I love watching you love it, and your damn good at it. Jessica Drake, 2010 AVN Hall of Famer, thank you so much for your time and generousity.
jessica drake: Thank you Paulie K, it was my pleasure.
