From Starlet to Superstar

Xtreme: Hi Kagney, how are you today?
Kagney: I'm great, thank you! Very excited to be here.
Xtreme: How did you get into the business?
Kagney: Out of curiosity. I met some of the players in the industry, called up some agents to see who and what was good for me, and found one that was amazing. L.A. Direct Models. I took the plunge and never looked back.
Xtreme: How old were you when you did your first scene?
Kagney: I was 21.
Xtreme: You danced before that, right?
Kagney: Yes, for three years.
Xtreme: Have you always been a really sexual person or would this have come as a surprise to your younger self?
Kagney: I never thought I would do it in high school. But maybe I was in a little bit of denial, because I've [been] sexual for as long as I can remember.
Xtreme: How old were you when you lost your virginity?
Kagney: Fifteen.
Xtreme: You've had a crazy few months. You've won so many awards, including AVN Best New Starlet earlier this year.
Kagney: Yeah! I've been busy.
Xtreme: What's the best thing that's happened to you since winning that award?
Kagney: Well, I was contracted right before I won the award, so everything kind of happened at once. I was nervous about not winning the award right after signing my contract because I didn't think that many good things could happen to me. I mean, I did, but I wanted to stay humble and not get my hopes up too much. But then it happened. My life hasn't really changed. I don't walk down the street with people screaming after me, “Oh, it's AVN's Best New Starlet!” That's not really how it happens. Definitely there's another level of respect in the industry, and I just want to be noticed and tell people, “I'm not going anywhere. Best New Starlet is just the beginning for me.”
Xtreme: Were you expecting to win?
Kagney: I wanted to have my fingers crossed, but people kept saying I was going to win. It got to the point where I really wanted to be surprised. I just wanted everyone to be quiet! It was almost like I couldn't be surprised anymore. So in a sense, I would have been really, really surprised at that point if I hadn't won, but I am so thankful and I felt like they made the right decision and picked the right girl because I don't plan to go anywhere.
Xtreme: What do you think appealed to the AVN voters about you?
Kagney: Well, it's reviewers who actually decide and they have to review the movies themselves, so I think it says, you know, I give 110% in every scene I do. I really enjoy what I do. I want to make good sex for people. Whether I'm doing a regular scene that's been done over and over or not, I want to bring something new and special to everything I do, even if you've seen it a hundred times. Naughty schoolgirl, naughty teacher, whatever. I really like to enjoy myself and I think that appealed to the voters for AVN.
Xtreme: How would you describe your sexual style? What's special about you?
Kagney: I'm more of a glamorous girl. I'm pretty vanilla, but I think I have an appeal that is really innocent and naughty at the same time. I have a young, innocent quality but the ability to bring that “whoa” factor to being naughty, and I think that surprises people.
Xtreme: I read that you, and I quote, “love doing solos” [Kagney laughs]. How often do you masturbate?
Kagney: I masturbate a lot. I started masturbating in grade school. I prefer not to use a vibrator; I have tons of vibrators because I get them for free all the time, but it's not like me to get out of bed and go to my closet for my vibrator, or even to keep it close. I'm just like, I'm so used to being able to touch myself and I'm comfortable that way and I don't need a toy. I love doing solo scenes. I feel like I can really be myself, and be that girl that is actually under the covers sometimes and does masturbate. It's so one-on-one. I have such a wild imagination that I don't need toys and I don't watch porn unless I'm watching it for comedic effect, or to critique my own scenes. Usually when I'm watching my friends' scenes, and sometimes just any porn at all, I end up laughing and goofing around about it. It's really hard for me to get into it. I guess it's not hard, but I don't watch it for those reasons. I can still pop in a porno with my boyfriend and fool around, but [those occasions are] few and far between for me.
Xtreme: Lots of performers say that, but their solution is usually to watch European porn where they don't know anyone.
Kagney: Yeah, definitely. I watched European porn with my girlfriend, actually, and masturbated with her.
Xtreme: So you have sex with girls?
Kagney: I do. I do have sex with girls. I like girls that like girls. I'm really picky because I don't want to feel...
Xtreme: Gay for pay?
Kagney: Yeah! And it's not even like I've never been gay for pay, because if my partner doesn't feel it, then there's no connection. So for me, I like to have sex with girls that I actually have a connection with, and who it feels good for, and I've definitely had sex with girls off-camera. I've had threesomes before, I've had sex with girls alone before, I've had a girlfriend for a period of time when I was dancing, and I still talk to her.
Xtreme: You mentioned [watching porn with] your boyfriend. Is that your actual boyfriend or just boyfriends in general?
Kagney: I have someone that I really care about a lot. I try to keep it kind of private, but yes, I do have a main squeeze, if you will.
Xtreme: Do you ever treat him by bringing home a co-star for the night?
Kagney: Not yet! Not yet. I really prefer civilians, I mean, just because it feels a little more spur of the moment. But if it feels right, I'm up for anything.
Xtreme: What kind of sex do you like? I know you mentioned being
pretty vanilla.
Kagney: I like slow, sensual sex. If I'm really attracted to someone, the slower it takes to get even to first base, the more I get turned on. From the moment that I know I'm turned on to when I actually do something with them, I like for it to be slow and sexy and surprising. I love slowly getting into it, because it gives me time to feel it more and more through my body and to
get aroused.
Xtreme: What are some things that you wouldn't want to do, either personally or on camera?
Kagney: I think what it's about is not exactly things that I don't want to do, it's just how much control I have over it. I want to push myself as a performer, it's important to me, and there's nothing I don't want to do. I mean, bestiality and being pissed on, I'm not into anything like that. But I do want to get into some heavy bondage, submissive stuff, since I feel like you have to learn to be submissive before you can be dominant.

Xtreme: So how are you possibly going to top the past year?
Kagney: It will all be about striving for more. I'm going to focus a lot on my website, kagneylinnkarter.com, where we'll be doing some awesome live shows this year. I think whenever you do live stuff, it's really special. Xtreme: How long is your contract with Zero Tolerance?
Kagney: It's two years.

Kagney: It is.
Xtreme: Do you like it more than freelancing?
Kagney: I do like both, but I think Zero Tolerance just has such a great product. Because of the DVD market and how the industry is evolving, it's important to realize who's going to stay around and who's not, and I want to be with a company that stays around. As far as being exclusive for a while, I like both. There are good qualities to both, but Zero Tolerance is an
amazing company.
Xtreme: What's your five year plan?
Kagney: Eventually, I have lots of plans. I really want to do a DVD line of pole dancing lessons; I'm really good on the pole from dancing for three years. I'd love to do a line from beginner to advanced. I'd love to open a pole dancing school. I just have so many goals I want to reach.
Xtreme: What's the best way for your fans to contact you, other than coming and seeing your shows?
Kagney: Definitely join my site and check out my calendar there. There are lots of cool forums and my fans can write to me, and I always write back as soon a possible, probably faster than I would on MySpace or Twitter. We actually do call-ins and I love doing live chats.
Xtreme: What can we expect from your shows?
Kagney: You can expect me to take the stage down. I never give less than 100% and dancing is really my thing.
